  26. I don't know if this has been discussed anywhere before, but by simply
  27. replacing the file NewTek uses to decompress the Toaster software with
  28. the shareware program LHA (as found on aminet and bbs' everywhere) you
  29. can speed up the installation by a fair amount. I don't know what the
  30. exact numbers are, but after deleting some fonts by mistake the other
  31. day I had to re-install the Toaster 2.0 s/w on my system. A file named
  32. "LZ.decomp" gets copied to your 'C' directory, and NewTek uses this
  33. lz to decompress the Toaster s/w once all the pieces have been joined
  34. together (from the 14 disks). So by removing this "LZ.decomp" file before
  35. it decompresses the resulting "toaster.lha" file, and renaming your
  36. program called "Lha" to "LZ.decomp" you can install the whole works in
  37. under 15 minutes on an '030 machine (this is roughly what I timed it at,
  38. including disk swaps).

  40. Then just rename "LZ.decomp" back to "Lha" and you're all set. The only 
  41. drawback I noticed was that the Toaster installation screen does not 
  42. tell you when it's finished decompressing, but by flipping back to 
  43. Workbench you can watch the 'Lha' window and clearly see when it is finished.
  44. Reboot and everything is fine.

  46. Please Note: I can only confirm that this procedure worked for me, and saved
  47. me some time when I was in a hurry. I will not be responsible for any 
  48. problems that may result if you try this yourself - I'm just passing along
  49. some information that I thought might be useful to somebody at some point
  50. in time.
